Our Construction
methods

All caravans built by Urban Caravans have a specially and uniquely developed Aluminium - Rot Free Frame that uses Tig Welds for durability and rigidity and Lock Bolting for off-road flexibility and stress absorption. The frames are then attached to the chassis using Z Channel grooves, that ensure the longevity and off-road prowess of all caravans built by Urban Caravans. Our interiors are also up to the task using our specially developed 'Glue It, Screw It, Seal It' manufacturing process.

Aluminium
Rot Free
Frame

Having an Aluminium frame means that our caravans are built for longevity, endurance and off-road ability. One of the biggest issues facing traditionally built wooden frame caravans is damage caused by water ingress. This rots the frame and renders the caravan useless.

Why An Aluminium Frame?
Aluminium frames are more durable, longer-lasting and provide higher levels of rigidity over traditional wooden framed caravans.

How Is An Aluminium Frame Better?
Beyond the longer-lasting, rot-free frames, aluminium frames also have structural advantages. Additionally, caravans built by Urban Caravans use Tig Welds for rigidity and Lock Bolting to join the different aluminium panels together.

Rot Free Frame
With little water ingress and some time, wooden frames can suffer major structural damage. Timber rot can set in due to something simple as a broken light seal. Composite floors and walls are also victims of water ingress, something you will not have to worry about with our Aluminium Framed caravans.

TIG
Weld

A Tig Weld avoids the use of rivets when constructing the Aluminium Frame. By Tig Welding the entire aluminium frame, there is no need for any rivets or staples and the wear and tear (such as stress cracking to the surrounding Aluminium) is avoided.

Tig Weld – Why Is It So Important In Aluminium Caravans?
A Tig Weld, being the most effective and durable weld, ensures that frames joined using this method are less likely to develop any structural issues. Therefore, all caravans built by Urban Caravans are built using the best available method for joining aluminium. This in turn guarantees that all of our caravans are long-lasting, durable and have a higher tolerance when facing challenging environments.

Tig Weld Or Rivets?
A Tig Weld avoids the use of rivets when constructing the Aluminium Frame. Rivets were the weak point of every aluminium frame before the use of Tig Welding was introduced. By Tig Welding the entire aluminium frame, there is no need for any rivets or staples and the wear and tear (such as stress cracking to the surrounding Aluminium) is avoided.

Lock
Bolted

By LOCK BOLTING the TIG Welded frame sections together, we give our caravans frames the flexibility required not to crack under full off-road conditions.

Z Channel
Chassis

By using a Z Channel when joining the chassis with the frame, the frame bolts onto the chassis using the overhangs. This is a more secure way to merge the frame and chassis and ensure durability and flexibility at the same time.

Glue It, Screw It,
Seal It.

All furniture is cut by CNC, we use a basic tongue and groove technique in all joins. This is then followed by our proprietary modified 3-part process of ‘ Glue It, Screw It, Seal It.’ The interiors of our caravans must be made to a level that withstands semi off-road and off-road conditions.

Dust Suppression
System

We’ve researched many different dust “reduction” systems and found that they reduced dust, but at varying levels of “reduction”. Urban Caravans have gone one step further by designing our own system that virtually eliminates dust ingress. Dust ingress not only affects your comfort and relaxation, it can negatively impact your health, by flaring up allergies and impacting your respiratory system.

How Do We Do It?
We combine a marine-grade air pump that pumps 3000 sq inches of air per minute into your van.

Can I Get The System With My New Caravan?
The Urban Dust Suppression System is now fitted as Standard to our entire range. This includes the Tungsten Armorlite, X-Terrain and X-Treme range of caravans.
